#44A SANCTITY & DIGNITY OF LIFE #44B ANIMAL RIGHTS
I believe that life is a sacred, mysterious gift. I stand in awe of the conscious, feeling, vibrant expression of life. Accordingly, I will not engage in any behavior, nor sanction any acts that terminate such life, or needlessly inflict pain on such living things. My respect for the sanctity, integrity, and dignity of life is such that I will oppose certain medical, biotechnological, or agribusiness practices that I see as tampering with it or degrading it.    I too believe life is to be respected.  But unlike anti-abortion activists, those battling euthanasia, opponents of capital punishment, etc, my focus is on extending that respect to animals. I believe if we link morally wrong to evil, evil to pain, pain to certain behavioral reactions we see in higher animals, then a desire to do the morally right thing dictates recognizing that animals have rights and extending ethical treatment to them.
