Custom Cards(version 3.0 theme based)

Creating A Deck of Cards That Embodies Your Worldview

Note: This program works best with Internet Explorer.  After entering your name, you select worldview themes for fifty-four cards to compose the front sides of your deck of cards.  Pictures of fifty-four corresponding playing cards will then appear on the screen spread out over six "pages" with each page containing nine cards.  You will use your web browser and printer to print out these cards. (Printing them out with certain other web browsers (such as Firefox?) may be tedious.) The program will then picture (again spread out over six "pages") the corresponding texts of worldview themes that will go on the back sides of the cards. Using the cards whose front sides you previously printed, you'll then print their back sides.

Custom Cards--Front Sides

Instructions for Entering Name:
Entering thirty-two characters in the box below will center your name.  So count the number of characters in your name (include spaces), subtract that number from thirty-two, and this tells you how many spaces to type in the box below before starting to enter your actual name.

Instructions for Composing the Front Sides of Your Deck of Cards
This program is to be used only after you have spent time articulating your worldview using the project Worldview website--and in particular have translated your worldview to a deck of playing cards.  In doing this, you should have completed a "Your Worldview to Deck of Cards Translation" sheet.  From what follows here, select the corresponding fifty-two cards below--thirteen from each of the four suits as prompted.  Use the scroll bars and page down key to move through the lists. Then select two worldview themes that you feel particular "Enthusiasm" or "Antagonism" for--these will be your "Magnifier Cards" (jokers!). So altogether you will specify worldview themes for fifty-four cards. Upon making these selections you'll be prompted to click on "Enter Your Information".
CAUTION: Be Careful!  Failure to make fifty-four selections--or in duplicating selection of the same worldview theme--will result in an error ("NaN" or other) message.

Instructions for Printing Out Your  Deck of Cards--Front Sides
If you have successfully followed the instructions to this point, paging or scrolling back up the screen will reveal six "pages" of customized playing cards--nine cards to a page.  You will use your printer and 8.5" x 11" card stock to print them out, one page at a time.  To do this, starting with the first page, use your mouse to highlight all nine cards on the page.  Then use Print Preview / Print as Selected / Print, File / Print / Selection or something similar to print what you have selected.  Repeat for the remaining five pages. This creates the front sides of your cards.  (See Note below before proceeding!)

Note: Prior to printing you'll need to tell your web browser to print background images.  With Internet Explorer you do this by clicking the "Tools" menu, then "Internet Options," then "Advanced," scrolling down to "Printing," checking "Print background colors and images," and finally clicking "Apply" and "OK." When using your mouse, highlighting of each page should begin with the text that precedes the individual cards and identifies the page number. You may need to adjust page margins to be as small as your browser / printer will allow, and eliminate any headers or footers that it might otherwise print.  Plan on experimenting using plain paper in your printer first before using card stock!)

Another Note: Printing will be easy from some web browsers (like Internet Explorer)  From others (like Firefox?) which won't let you copy regular text and text in text boxes at the same time, the process will be much more involved. It will require that you first copy all of the regular text to make a template into a word processing program, then copy each of the fifty-four worldview theme names (one at a time) to fill in this template. You will then print the front sides of your cards (one page of nine cards at a time) from your  word processing program--not from your web browser.)

Instructions for Composing the Back Sides of Your Deck of Cards

By clicking below you will paste the texts of fifty-two worldview theme cards in the proper order so that they match up with the themes you selected for the front sides. (Note: Some may appear twice!) They will appear spread out over six "pages" below.  So, to customize the back sides of your cards you simply need to click below...

Instructions for Printing Out Your  Deck of Cards--Back Sides
If you have successfully followed the instructions to this point, paging or scrolling back up the screen will reveal six "pages" (nine cards to a page) of worldview themes in an order appropriate for the back sides of your customized playing cards.  Now you will use your printer and the 8.5" x 11" card stock that you previously printed the front sides of your cards on to print out their back sides, one page at a time.  To do this, starting with the first page, use your mouse to highlight all nine cards on the page.
Then use Print Preview / Print As Selected / Print, File / Print / Selection or something similar to print what you have selected.  Repeat for the remaining five pages. This creates the back sides of your cards.  Remember your highlighting of each page should begin with the text that precedes the individual cards and identifies the page number. You may need to adjust page margins to be as small as your browser / printer will allow, and eliminate any headers or footers that it might otherwise print.  In loading the previously printed card stock into your printer, it should be oriented as it was when you first printed it, except that it should be turned over (like you'd turn the page of a book.) Again, plan on experimenting using plain paper in your printer first before using your previously printed card stock!
